Danny Elfman is only a couple of weeks away from seeing his most prominent MCU composing work yet come to the big screen with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, his list of credits in the superhero genre is seemingly more than a mile long, including projects like Michael Keaton's Batman movies, assistance on Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy.
Elfman's work on Maguire's Spider-Man movies became one of the most memorable movie themes of the 21st century - one which even came back for key moments in last year's Spider-Man: No Way Home. Teaming up with director Sam Raimi for the original web-slinger movies, his score helped make Maguire's solo films something special from a musical standpoint from beginning to end.
Now, even as Raimi and Elfman prepare to see their work on Doctor Strange 2 arrive in theaters, Elfman's composition from the Spider-Man films is still one of the scores for which he is most recognized. He even recently made an appearance at one of the biggest music festivals in the world to bring that music back for longtime fans.
Spider-Man Heard at Coachella 2022
Twitter user @MaguireDunst shared a video from Coachella 2022 of composer Danny Elfman performing the theme music from Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man movies.
Elfman led a full orchestra of strings, winds, and vocalists performing his musical score from Maguire's films, which can be seen in the video below:
This came as part of a set that featured more than half a dozen scores on which Elfman worked, including pieces from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, and The Simpsons. He even had his orchestra perform part of the score from Michael Keaton's 1989 Batman film, which can be seen and heard in the tweet below from @ema_sasic:
Elfman Shines with Spider-Man at Festival
Music festivals like Coachella are known for their vast variety of music styles that make it onto the biggest of stages - everything from rock and pop to indie and hip-hop. While movie scores like the ones on Danny Elfman's resume aren't usually in the biggest of spotlights at these events, his work on Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man movies made their mark 20 years after their debut on-screen.
Even with such an impressive resume over the past 40 years, Elfman's work on superhero films like Spider-Man and Batman stands out above the rest thanks to the genre's consistent popularity with fans. Tobey Maguire's Spidey trilogy has even seen a resurgence thanks to No Way Home's record-breaking theatrical run, allowing more viewers to reminisce on Elfman's musical themes behind the web-slinger.
Now, the wait continues for Elfman's next project, Doctor Strange 2, a movie that should have more than its fair share of thrilling musical numbers as the Multiverse tears apart. That film will arrive in theaters on May 6.
